Diamond Quality - The 4Cs
Q: What are diamond weights?
A: Diamond carat weight is the measurement of how much a diamond weighs. A metric “carat” is defined as 200 milligrams. Learn more about diamond weights here.
Q: What does diamond color and clarity mean?
A: In most diamonds, the term diamond color grade actually refers to the absence of color. The less color in the stone, the more desirable and valuable it is. Some of these differences are not visible to the naked eye, but directly impact the overall quality and price of the stone.
Diamond clarity grade measures the amount, size and placement of internal ‘inclusions,’ and external ‘blemishes.’ Grades run from ‘Flawless,’ with virtually no imperfections, to ‘Included,’ which contain a significant number of imperfections. Learn more about diamonds here.
Q: What makes a diamond sparkle?
A: Diamond Cut Grade does not refer to a diamonds shape, but to the proportion and arrangement of its facets and the quality of workmanship. The amount of brilliance, sparkle and fire in a diamond is determined by cut. Grades range from ‘Excellent’ to ‘Poor.’
Q: What is the best clarity of a diamond?
A: Flawless (FL) No inclusions and no blemishes visible under 10x magnification. The GIA Diamond Clarity Scale has 6 categories, some of which are divided, for a total of 11 specific grades. Learn more about the 4Cs here.

Sizing Rings
Q: Can I get my ring resized at The Diamond Center?
A: Yes! Whether your ring is from The Diamond Center or not, our in-house goldsmiths can resize it.
We ALWAYS recommend having your significant other stop in store to have their finger sized before purchasing the ring to avoid extra bending/expanding being done on the ring.
Q: When should I resize my ring?
A: Your fingers will change slightly in size due to environmental factors, weather, aging, and more. Here are some key signs of when you should get your ring resized: finger swelling, pain, redness, it is very difficult to remove or if it falls off when shaking your hand.
Q: Can I resize the same ring multiple times?
A: Yes, however it is not recommended. It can weaken the structure of the ring the more you bend the metal.
Q: What rings can not be resized?
A: There are certain types of rings that we can not resize, to be sure we always recommend bringing your ring in for our staff to see in person. One reason is that your ring is made from an unconventional metal such as resin, ceramic, jade, or wood. There are also some eternity bands or rings with a complex band design that can not be resized without disrupting the design. Lastly, if you are trying to size the ring up/down too many sizes (usually 2 or more) because it can cause stones to pop out or metal to be bent/stretched too much.
Q: Can you cut my ring off my finger?
A: Yes, if you can not get your ring off your finger we can cut it off in store for you.
Engraving
Q: Can I engrave something I purchased at The Diamond Center?
A: Yes! As long as the jewelry piece purchased has the space for it, we will engrave it for free.
Q: Can I bring in something that was not purchased from The Diamond Center to be engraved?
A: Yes, you can bring in any piece to be engrave as long as it will fit into our engraving machine. If the piece was not purchased from The Diamond Center there will be an engraving fee.

Q: What designer rings do we sell?
A: We sell engagement rings from designers like Hearts On Fire, Simon G, Gabriel & Co., Ritani, and Scott Kay
Q: Can I bring in my own diamond/colored stone to put in an engagement ring?
A: Yes! Our in-house goldsmith team can take your center stone and put it into one of our ring mountings.
Q: Do you sell engagement rings online?
A: Yes, we do have a few options online that you can purchase. Please note: Many of the engagement rings we sell online are labeled as “semi-mount engagement rings” meaning they DO NOT include a center diamond. The main center diamond will have to be purchased in store separately. If the ring is labeled “complete engagement ring” it includes the center diamond in the price.
Q: Can you make me a custom engagement ring?
A: Yes, we do offer custom designed rings and jewelry! Schedule an appointment in store with one of our talented sales members and they will show you what the custom ring process is like.
Q: Can I add engraving on my ring?
A: Yes, we can add an engraved message to your ring (message length will be determined by the space available on that specific ring).
General Engagement Ring Questions
Q: What if I don’t know my partners ring size?
A: We always recommend having your partner stop in store to “browse” and be sized by our staff so we can be 100% sure the correct size is being ordered. If that is not an option for you, we recommend just buying the ring in the stock size we have in store. That way if it does not fit after you propose, you can bring that ring back in to return, we will size their finger, and special order the specific ring size you need. (Again, we do not take returns on special orders, which is why it is important to get the ring size correct before anything is ordered!)
Q: Does the main stone (center stone) in my ring have to be a diamond?
A: No. While diamonds are the most common center stones for engagement rings, you can put any gemstone you want in the center. Please keep in mind some gemstones are “softer” than others and can break/become damaged a lot easier. If your spouse intends on wearing their ring every day, be sure to choose a gemstone that is high on the gemstone hardness scale.
Q: How often should I bring my ring in for a cleaning/inspection?
A: At The Diamond Center we do not require inspections to keep your warranty, it is always free! However it is still recommended that you bring your ring in for a cleaning/inspection at least once a year to keep it clean and in tip top shape!
